Metamorphosis

Kate loves exploring selected carved shapes further through casting. This piece takes that process further than most - it has a real family tree.

Originally carved in Nephrite Jade from Big Sur (reclaimed from a second-hand bookend - she is always drawn to found materials), a mould was made and cast. That cast was then sliced and scaled up. A new mould was taken from the slice, cast again, carved once more, and moulded again.

Metamorphosis is the fourth generation from the original carving.

This unique pale blush pink edition has beautifully flowing organic curves, emphasised through polished and satin surfaces. One of Kate’s great joys in casting translucent materials is revealing the internal world of curves and edges - and this piece does so particularly well, especially when light floods through it.
