BECKY BLAIR
mix media on canvas
framed in thin-profile oak
90 x 120 cm
Each of Becky Blair's works is entirely original and made by hand in her Brighton studio. Working on hand-stretched raw canvas, Becky builds the surface slowly through painting, drawing, embroidery and woven elements, allowing motifs and patterns to develop intuitively as the work evolves.
The physical making is integral to the work. Paint, thread and fabric sit alongside one another, connecting Becky's contemporary visual language with the long history of weaving and our instinctive, tactile relationship with cloth.
I have represented Becky's work for over 25 years, and what has always struck me is the balance she achieves between exuberance and something much more contemplative. These are joyful, immediately engaging works, but spend time with them and there is always more going on beneath the surface - ideas around creativity, memory, connection and those experiences we feel but can't necessarily put into words.
Each work is professionally framed by Brighton's Frame Factory in a beautifully simple, contemporary thin-profile oak frame, chosen to complement the raw canvas and intricate surface without competing with it.
This new collection will be presented at the Affordable Art Fair, Battersea, 14–18 October 2026.
