Gloria

My flowers in vases are an ongoing collection of paintings, some small and intimate, others larger and more expressive.

These smaller works are part of my daily painting practice - a place to experiment with colour, gesture and composition.

Some paintings are completed in a few sittings, while others have been revisited and reworked over several years, carrying traces of their previous lives. Palimpsests of sorts, with layers of paint, memory and time.

Many are named after women - friends, family, women who have inspired me - while others simply take on names that come to mind as they emerge. Each has its own character, history and personality.
