Cadence
Cadence is a series of abstract paintings exploring rhythm, gesture and the space between marks.
Made using inks, watercolours and hand-ground pigments, often applied with inherited and vintage brushes, each work is an intuitive exploration of colour, movement and material.
Broad, fluid gestures sit alongside delicate lines, translucent layers and moments of stillness. There is an element of chance in the way the pigments move and settle, balanced by the deliberate placement of each mark.
These paintings are about doing less, allowing the materials to speak and finding a rhythm in the process of making.
